THORChain is an independent blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK that will function as a cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX). It employs an automated market maker (AMM) model similar to the early iterations of Bancor (BNT) or Uniswap. The native token (RUNE) of THORChain serves as the base swap pair. Using RUNE as a somewhat hidden intermediary, this model enables traders to move between different asset pools. It also pays a portion of trading fees to liquidity providers (LPs), who deposit or "stake" assets on either side of a liquidity pool.
It employs an AMM model to facilitate cryptoasset swaps. It is an independent cryptonetwork that aims to enable the non-custodial exchange of assets across disparate blockchain networks. Its protocol includes a cross-chain bridge system (dubbed the Bifröst Protocol) for connecting different chains. To facilitate asset exchange, THORChain also employs an adapted version of Bancor's "smart tokens," known as Continuous Liquidity Pools (CLPs). The main distinction is that CLPs compensate users for contributing to the liquidity in each pool. RUNE is a native token on THORChain that owners can use to participate in the network or add to a liquidity pool.
